Job Title: Network Security Engineer

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Network Security Engineer to join our IT team at Mental Health Cooperative (MHC). This role is critical to maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of our network infrastructure and sensitive data. Additionally, this role has been created to enhance the security posture of MHC’s digital infrastructure by designing, implementing, and maintaining robust network security systems. This role is critical in safeguarding sensitive health data and ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory frameworks.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in network engineering as well as security, threat detection, and incident response, and will play a key role in implementing and managing network operations and cybersecurity protocols across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain secure network systems including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) and zero-trust frameworks
- Lead an effort to create standardized network topology standards and implement accordingly, including IP, Vlan segmentation, and routing architecture
- Monitor and analyze network traffic and system logs for suspicious activity and vulnerabilities
- Conduct regular security audits, penetration testing, and risk assessments
- Lead incident response efforts and conduct forensic investigations
- Respond to and investigate security incidents, breaches, and malware threats
- Collaborate with IT and compliance teams to ensure regulatory alignment (e.g., HIPAA and State of Tennessee security standards)
- Maintain and update disaster recovery and business continuity plans
- Document security architecture, policies, and incident response procedures
- Provide training and guidance to staff on cybersecurity awareness and best practices
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity or related field
- 3+ years of experience in network and cybersecurity engineering
- Strong knowledge of security frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS Controls, ISO 27001)
- Proficiency with tools such as firewalls, SIEM, endpoint protection, and encryption technologies
- Certifications such as CISSP, CEH, Security+, or equivalent
- Hands-on experience with Cisco Meraki for cloud-managed networking
- Proficiency in Microsoft Intune for endpoint and device management
- Working knowledge of Bigleaf Cloud Connect SD-WAN
- Strong understanding of Wireless WAN (WWAN) technologies and deployment strategies
- Expertise in configuring and managing network switches and Layer 2/3 infrastructure
- Familiarity with SD-WAN solutions for optimized and secure branch connectivity
- Experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms and policies
- Knowledge of on-premises datacenter environments, including hybrid cloud integration
- Implementation and support of Single Sign-On (SSO) and identity federation solutions
- Proven ability to provide comprehensive network support, including troubleshooting, monitoring, and performance tuning
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Experience in healthcare IT environments
- Scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation and incident response
