Position Summary/Overview:
The New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM)is seeking a dynamic and innovative Associate Director of Digital Health and Chronic Disease to join our team. This role is perfect for a forward-thinking population health researcher with a passion for leveraging advanced technologies to tackle chronic diseases and improve public health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Innovative Research: Design and conduct cutting-edge epidemiological studies focused on the social determinants of health and chronic diseases (e.g., cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular disease, maternal child health, or environmental health).
- Grant Writing: Write and submit compelling grant proposals to secure funding from federal, state, local, and foundation sources.
- Publication and Dissemination: Publish research findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present them at prestigious scientific conferences.
- Multisectoral Collaboration: Collaborate with a diverse range of partners, including governmental agencies, community-based organizations, healthcare providers, and academic institutions.
- Program Development: Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative, community-centered chronic disease prevention and control programs.
- Expertise and Policy Support: Provide expert insights in social epidemiology to support public health initiatives and policy development.
- Mentorship: Mentor and supervise junior researchers and students, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Change Agent: Drive innovation and act as a change agent within NYAM and broader community.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Economics, Nursing, Medicine, or a related field.
- Research Experience: Proven experience in conducting epidemiological research, particularly related to chronic diseases and HealthSpan areas (e.g., mental health, Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular disease, maternal child health, or environmental health).
- Technical Skills: Strong quantitative skills and proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, STATA, Python).Knowledge of natural language processing, large language models, and/or strong machine learning skills are a plus.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to write successful grant proposals.
- Collaboration and Equity: Experience working with community-based organizations and a commitment to health equity.
- Innovative Mindset: Forward-thinking approach with willingness to take initiative and drive change.
- Methodological Expertise: Good understanding of mixed methods and advanced quantitative methods.
- Public Health Experience: Experience in applied public health is a plus.

This position is in New York City. Staff currently work in a hybrid environment with flexibility pending the needs of the department.

Salary and Benefits: We offer competitive salary and benefits packages, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary range for this position is between $115,000and $125,000.
