The
Senior, VP Clinical Advancement will lead Banner’s efforts to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our care delivery through technology. Partner with our physicians, nurses and clinicians, exploring and implement new digital tools that make work easier and improve quality. Through process engineering, this role will ensure we implement best practices across our system delivering consistent standards of care built with reimaged and reinvigorated Clinical consensus groups and Clinical high reliability groups.
Ensuring that every patient has access to best-in-class care, this role will oversee the telemedicine strategy, extending the reach of our primary care and specialty services. This individual will assess, identify, and implement technology that improves the lives of clinicians and enables us to spend more cognitive and human contact time to enhance our quality, safety, patient experience and joy in practicing medicine. This individual will work collaboratively with IT, innovation, clinical leaders, and others across the organization.

Position Summary
This position is responsible for leading efforts to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of care delivery through technology. In collaboration with physicians, nurses, clinicians, IT and innovation partners across the organization, this position will explore and implement new digital tools to make work easier and improve quality. Through process engineering, this position will ensure that we implement best practices across our system delivering consistent standards of care built with reimaged and reinvigorated Clinical Consensus Groups (CCGs)/CHARGE (Clinical High Reliability Groups) groups. Ensuring that every patient has access to best-in-class care, this position will oversee the telemedicine strategy, extending the reach of our primary care and specialty services. This position will assess, identify, and implement technology that improves the lives of clinicians and enables Banner to spend more cognitive and human contact time to enhance our quality, safety, patient experience, and joy in practicing medicine.
Core Functions
- Collaborating with community-based, employed, and academic providers, assess and lead clinical advancement implementation across all settings including inpatient, ED, ambulatory, clinic, occupational health, urgent care, home health, and telehealth.
- Lead clinical advancement through clinical consensus groups/CHARGE groups that includes clinical process and technology enablement as drivers. Drive technology advancement for all caregivers, including physicians, APPs, nurses, therapists (physical, occupational, respiratory, speech) and others.
- Assesses emerging technology that supports clinical advancement for patient care and create an inspiring vision of how technology will make the day in the life of clinicians easier and measure success in tangible ways.
- Directs, supervises, and evaluates the work of staff. Holds management staff accountable for achieving plans and performance targets. Works with them to identify and resolve the most complex issues and problems impacting initiatives and operations. Develops staff to ensure continued professional growth and to provide the competencies the company needs to support its growth and long-term success. Articulates and demonstrates an expectation for continuous quality improvement utilizing processes that include consideration of all stakeholders.
- Builds and supports effective collegial relationships with applicable internal and external stakeholders and organizations, ensuring and fostering a high level of collaboration in order to develop partnerships, coordinate activities, review work, exchange information, and/or resolve problems. Promotes and models positive relationships among various entities.
- Oversees the development, implementation, and consistent application of effective organizational policies and practices. Maintains an effective internal control environment to ensure that assets are safeguarded, policies and operating procedures are followed, necessary controls are effective and efficient, proper compliance with existing laws and regulations achieved, and operations comply with the legal and regulatory parameters in which it operates.
- Develops, reviews, and monitors financial and performance outcomes to assure attainment of organizational objectives established by corporate leadership and the Board of Directors. Maintains an effective budgeting and capital planning discipline in conjunction with operational management to ensure planned revenues, expenses, and/or profit goals are met, including Support Banner’s strategic vision that includes a reduction of administrative clinician burden.
- Able to work collaboratively in a highly matrixed organization and involve multiple stakeholders for seamless and exquisite implementation of care processes and technology enablement to support clinical care improvement.
- Ensures the integration of new and innovative operations and/or services by providing leadership that maximizes management staff’s contributions and assures timely decision-making reflective of the mission, vision, and values of the system.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Banner Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.
Minimum Qualifications
Strong knowledge of healthcare operations as normally obtained through the completion MD/DO. Master's degree preferred in business, health services administrator or related field Ten years of progressively responsible managerial experience in applicable area(s) of position responsibility, including a minimum of five years senior management level experience within a major health care organization or health system setting.
Informatics experience desirable with a prior role of CMIO or similar type level in a healthcare delivery system.
Prior experience with implementing large technology advancements to improve clinical quality and safety. Experience working in a large, highly matrixed, integrated delivery system in an executive level position.
Proven track record of driving strategic and performance outcomes with focus on quality and safety, as well as accomplishing organizational goals. Experience anticipating and responding to the needs of internal and external customers. Proven experience in leading fiscally sound, profitable, efficient, and responsible operations for a large multi-faceted division. Strong financial and business acumen. Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting methodologies. Skilled in effectively engaging management level staff, employees, and stakeholders in order to build partnerships, achieve strategic initiatives, and attain organizational goals; constructing new and innovative solutions for complex and varying problems and situations; mentoring and coaching management level staff by providing open and honest feedback that results in enhanced performance outcomes; developing and implementing strategic goals and initiatives that demonstrate a strong commitment to organizational success; effectively allocating resources in order to accomplish organizational goals; quickly assessing and assimilating organizational and industry financial dynamics in order to make appropriate decisions and act quickly on new initiatives; negotiating win-win scenarios with outside vendors/partners while representing the organization in the best possible light; developing collaborative relationships with internal and/or external strategic partners and/or other applicable parties.
