Summary
The Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) of Jackson Memorial Hospital is a senior physician leader who plays a critical role in advancing clinical excellence, patient safety, and operational efficiency across a large, complex, quaternary care academic medical center. As a member of the executive leadership team, the ACMO partners with the Chief Medical Officer and interdisciplinary teams to ensure the highest standards of patient safety, quality outcomes, and physician engagement while supporting the institution's mission to drive innovation and excellence in medicine in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the medical center.
Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Quality Improvement
- Provide leadership in medical quality, patient safety, and clinical excellence, aligning with national benchmarks and evidence-based practices. Monitor and improve clinical performance metrics, including patient safety indicators, hospital-acquired conditions, length of stay, readmission rates, and mortality.
- Partner with department chairs and medical directors to implement quality enhancement programs, reducing variations in care and increasing efficiency. Promote a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and system-wide clinical excellence.
- Collaborate with the CMO to define and implement clinical strategies that support institutional goals and optimize care delivery across inpatient, outpatient, and specialty services. Lead and support programs focused on clinical quality improvement, including Root Cause Analyses (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and safety event review.
- Collaborate with Quality and Patient Safety departments to develop and implement hospital-wide safety protocols and clinical pathways. Promote evidence-based practice and clinical standardization to reduce variation and improve outcomes.
- Address disruptive behaviors and conflicts in a fair, transparent, and timely manner.
Operational & Financial Management
- Collaborate with hospital administration and clinical leadership to optimize healthcare delivery models, increasing operational effectiveness.
- Contribute to budget planning and resource allocation for clinical services, ensuring sustainability and fiscal responsibility.
- Drive initiatives to enhance physician and healthcare provider engagement, fostering multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Oversee strategic planning for physician workforce development, recruitment, and retention.
Academic & Research Leadership
- Support and advance the institution's academic mission by integrating education and research into clinical practice.
- Serve as a liaison to the Graduate Medical Education (GME) office to ensure clinical environments support medical education goals.
- Collaborate with research leadership to promote clinical trials, translational medicine, and evidence-based innovation.
Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, state/federal regulations, and hospital policies.
- Collaborate with risk management, legal teams, and quality assurance professionals to maintain best practices in healthcare delivery.
- Lead efforts related to regulatory reporting, data transparency, and continuous improvements in hospital safety measures.
Strategic Development & Innovation
- Contribute to the strategic vision and long-range planning efforts of the medical center, particularly as it pertains to clinical care, physician engagement, and innovation.
- Foster partnerships with external agencies, government bodies, and healthcare networks to strengthen institutional influence.
- Support digital health initiatives, including clinical informatics, electronic health record optimization, and telemedicine.
- Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
Generally requires a minimum 10 years of related experience. Physician leadership experience is required.
Education
Doctorate degree in Medicine is required.
Credentials
Board certification in a medical specialty and current, unrestricted license to practice medicine.
