The Role:
Syndax is seeking an Executive Director of Medical Communications to lead the strategic vision, development, and execution of global medical communications across publications, omnichannel, medical education, and congress engagement. This individual will serve as a key leader within Medical Affairs, responsible for shaping and delivering a cohesive, insight-driven communications strategy that supports the company’s oncology portfolio and scientific leadership.
The Executive Director will oversee the planning and execution of global publication strategies, lead omnichannel communication initiatives, and drive Syndax’s presence and impact at major scientific congresses. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, external experts, and senior leadership to ensure scientific integrity, alignment with corporate objectives, and excellence in execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Publications Leadership
Lead the development and execution of comprehensive global publication strategies across the oncology portfolio, ensuring alignment with medical and commercial objectives.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of publications, including planning, authorship, review, and submission of abstracts, posters, manuscripts, and presentations.
- Ensure adherence to industry standards (GPP, ICMJE, etc.) and internal SOPs, maintaining scientific rigor and compliance.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external authors to ensure timely and impactful dissemination of clinical and real-world evidence.
Omnichannel Medical Communications
- Develop and implement a cohesive omnichannel communication strategy that integrates publications, digital content, medical education, and field tools.
- Lead the creation of scientific platforms, core slide decks, annotated literature summaries, and disease awareness content tailored to diverse audiences (HCPs, payers, internal teams).
- Partner with HEOR, Field Medical, and Commercial teams to translate data into compelling, compliant, and audience-specific content across channels.
Team and Vendor Management
- Lead and mentor a high-performing team and manage external agencies to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.
- Oversee budget planning and resource allocation for publications and communications activities.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across internal and external partners.
Desired Experience/Education and Personal Attributes:
- Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent) in a scientific discipline.
- 12+ years of experience in medical communications, publications, or scientific affairs within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Deep expertise in oncology and a strong understanding of the evolving scientific and regulatory landscape.
- Proven track record of leading global publication strategies and omnichannel communication initiatives.
- Experience developing and executing congress strategies, including symposia and scientific engagement.
- Strong leadership, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of scientific acumen.
- Ability to travel regularly for congresses, advisory boards, and internal meetings.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors.
Location: Syndax’s corporate office is in New York, NY.
Syndax offers a total compensation and rewards package that is among the most competitive in the industry. Base pay is just one element of our package and is determined within a range based on several factors including market data, experience, qualifications, demonstrated skills, relevant education or training, travel requirements and internal equity. Our overall package also includes an equity offering, annual target bonuses, and an outstanding benefits program. The anticipated annualized salary range for this role $290,000 - $310,000.
