How You’ll Make a Difference:
This position demands…
- Coordinate and obtain prior authorizations for all vein-related surgical procedures from commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care payers.
- Review medical records and clinical documentation to ensure medical necessity criteria are met for requested procedures.
- Communicate effectively with insurance carriers, physician offices, and clinical staff to resolve authorization issues or denials.
- Maintain current knowledge of insurance guidelines and pre-certification requirements for vein procedures.
- Ensure accurate and timely data entry into EHR and practice management systems (Athenahealth).
- Track and follow up on outstanding authorizations and appeals, escalating as needed. ? Train new authorization specialists or administrative staff on vein-specific procedures and payer requirements.
- Provider training and education to current Authorization Specialists.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with HIPAA, payer policies, and internal workflow standards. ? Collaborate with the RCM leadership to prevent authorization-related denials and support appeals if necessary.
Competencies:
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in medical insurance authorization, with a focus on vein surgery or vascular procedures.
- Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 codes, and payer authorization protocols specific to vein treatments.
- Familiarity with common vein procedures: Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT), Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA), Sclerotherapy, Ambulatory Phlebectomy, Varithena, and VenaSeal.
- Proficiency with EMRs and billing systems.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Required Education and Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in medical insurance authorization, with a focus on vein surgery or vascular procedures.
Preferred education and experience
- Experience with Athena Practice
