Position Summary
As an Academic Coach, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the educational journey and personal growth of foster youth in grades 5-8. Your focus will be on creating a positive and nurturing learning environment, fostering self-confidence, and providing the tools necessary for academic success. Working directly with students, you will develop tailored study habits, time management skills, and strategies for overcoming challenges.
Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships with foster youth, creating a safe and supportive atmosphere.
- Collaborate with students to identify strengths, weaknesses, interests, and goals.
- Assist students in setting and refining academic and personal objectives.
- Educate students on effective study habits, time management, and organizational skills.
- Monitor student progress and provide guidance and support as needed.
- Collaborate with school staff, teachers, and counselors to ensure comprehensive student support.
- Identify and connect students with external resources to enhance their growth and development.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with students, colleagues, parents, and community partners.
- Empathy, interpersonal skills, and emotional intelligence.
- Proficiency in effective teaching and coaching techniques.
- Excellent time-management and organizational abilities.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED Equivalent
- At least one year of academic counseling or coaching experience
- Experience tutoring, teaching, or mentoring students, preferably in a diverse setting.
- Strong proficiency in Google Suite, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Zoom.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing schedules and program needs.
- Ability to pass fingerprinting, complete required vaccinations, and pass a TB screening is required.
Preferred Skills And Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, special education, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of experience in academic counseling, coaching, or teaching.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
