Job Summary
The Surgical Coordinator position is responsible for coordinating and/or completing all activities related to scheduling and preparing for surgical procedures and will serve as conduit between physician, patient, hospital, practice and medical suppliers. Experienced individual will demonstrate professional assistance while interacting with all involved but especially with the patient and families; identify potential or realized scheduling barriers and provide appropriate and timely solutions; as well as recognize and respond to urgent/troublesome situations according to established protocol and common sense.

General Responsibilities

Meet with patients to schedule and prepare them for surgery.
Complete surgery scheduling both on surgeon’s schedule and with surgery center.
Accurately verify insurance benefits and obtain any necessary preauthorization; arranging for any peer to peer conferences needed for approval
Accurately calculate, provide and explain surgery estimate to patient and arrange for collection of any out of pocket expenses from patient, or those financially responsible, prior to procedure.
Work with patient and PCP to coordinate H&P in a timely and complete manner
Work with medical assistant to schedule pre and post operative appointments
Compile and provide surgery packet to patient
Submit all required information and documentation to surgery center
Order surgical hardware
Complete and submit any patient disability or FMLA forms or applications
Answer any surgery related questions from patient, staff, physician, supplier
Coordinate with medical assistant in preparing necessary items surgeon needs to bring to surgery including digital images, progress notes, etc
Obtain operative reports from surgery center in timely manner
Conscientiously monitor surgery blocks; add-on, adjust or release in a timely manner as required by surgery center and advantageous to surgeons needs
Act as point person between the surgery centers and the practice
Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

Previous surgery scheduling/coordination is required
Accuracy of numerous details is required
Highly motivated
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, insurance processes, and coding practices.
Comfort level with computers and other devices, as well as electronic health record systems, online portals, devices, websites, etc
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to best utilize a schedule.
Diplomatic communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on customer service.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team to achieve common goals.

Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32 – 35 per week
