Position Overview

GoochlandCares' Medical Patient Care Director is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for orchestrating medical clinic programs to ensure local residents have access to and receive the quality healthcare services they need. This role educates staff and monitors and documents any HIPAA or OSHA-related compliance matter.

This role directly supervises medical clinic staff and volunteers.

Essential Job Functions

Daily clinic operations in our free clinic serve the uninsured, low-income residents of Goochland, Louisa, Cumberland, and Fluvanna counties. The following outline the essential duties for this role:

Management

Serves as a member of the practice team and manages clinic operations, clinic staff, equipment, supplies, and volunteers, to ensure efficient daily operations and quality services are delivered to all clients.
Validates staff and volunteer performance with competency assessments on an annual basis so the team is held accountable to existing policies, procedures, and expectations.
Ensures timely communication is disseminated to staff and volunteers regarding clinic updates and organizational information by holding staff meetings and encouraging team building.
Arranges daily patient huddles and performs weekly chart reviews before and after appointments to ensure accuracy of client care needs.
Collaborates daily with physicians to ensure there is coverage for all clinics so clients can meet with a physician and receive the care they need. for treatment planning.

RN Duties

Acts as an initial responder to any medical issue onsite by triaging the situation and providing care as needed.
Serves as a clinical resource by providing daily medical guidance to staff regarding client care.
Assumes patient advocacy role by acting as the liaison between hospitals and GoochlandCares to help clients understand billing information.
Oversees the daily operations of the pharmacy program: manages samples, expired drugs, vaccines, refills, over the counter supplies, and orders prescriptions.
Administers immunizations weekly and enters into the state VIIS system to track immunization records for any immunization given.
Researches, provides, and facilitates updated medical-related content for staff and clients so they are educated weekly on disease and prevention.
Oversees the daily operations for the lab and lab staff: Validates quality assurance measures and adequate supplies are maintained.
Ensures client documentation is accurate in client charts and services are tracked appropriately to ensure quality care daily.

Community Outreach And Engagement

Coordinates daily with community partners (including EWL and VTMHI) on referral services in effort to build relationships and expand the medical clinic program so clients can get the care they need. to provide excellent patient care.
Works with different vendors to order medical supplies and equipment each month and ensure it's in proper working order.

Compliance

Manages Civitas' Risk Management database entries as needed by entering licensed volunteers or staff into the system for compliance purposes.
Validates active licensure for providers each quarter by checking the state website for compliance purposes.
Manages access to outside electronic medical records with HCA, BSMHI, and VCU.

Collaboration

Collaborates with interdepartmental programs weekly to discuss client needs, coordinate volunteer placement and onboarding, and discuss other program needs.
Collaborates with the Development Department to collect stories and photos from clients, staff, and volunteers to promote the mission of the organization.

Completes other duties as assigned.

Requirements

The following represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the essential functions of the job.

Two-year college degree or technical degree in healthcare related field required.
Licensed healthcare professional required.
CPR certification required.
5+ years of experience in a clinical role and knowledge of community health needs is required.
Experience in a medical office environment is preferred.
5+ years of management experience including supervising clinic staff is required.
Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills displaying a caring, tactful, diplomatic, and respectful attitude towards staff, volunteers, and patients.
Ability to provide care under a trauma-informed-care approach and DEI approach.
Experience working in an ever-changing work environment is required.
Experience working with digital medical records is required.
Bilingual Spanish/English is preferred but not required.
Ability to multi-task, have a strong attention to detail, and manage different priorities.
Ability to identify self-limitations regarding skills and knowledge and willingness to seek assistance to ensure patient safety and optimize quality of care.

Ability to work with a variety of volunteers and care situations in sometimes unpredictable conditions and be able to build and maintain those relationships.

Technical Skills

Proficient with Microsoft Office.
Proficient with ECW.
Proficient with point of care testing on lab equipment.
Proficient with PAP system (pharmacy system).
